  • These days, there are many research made proving fluorapatite cement to be one of the materials in dentistry that can restore and treat badly carious lesion. In this research, Fluorapatite is trying to be fabricated by using anhydrous type of Calcium Phosphate Cement (DCPA), Calcite (CaCO3) as the precursor to form Carbonate Apatite Crystal and Calcium Fluoride (CaF2). CaF2 will be mixed into Sodium Dihydrogen Phosphate (NaH2PO4) with different percentages, which are 1%, 5% and 10%. The samples are then incubated for 24 hours at 37˚c under 100% moisture condition. X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) characterization will be made to determine the phase composition and crystallinity of fluorapatite. The samples will undergo Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) examination to determine the functional group of the crystal. The result shows that all of the samples undergo satisfactory setting reaction. In XRD characterization results, it shows that the formation of apatite phase of crystal at 32.43˚ and 32.83˚ FTIR indicates the stretching vibration of fluoride compound at 1400 cm-1. The intensity formation of apatite crystal phase at particular degrees are not as high as standard hydroxyapatite data due to incomplete formation of apatite crystal within 24 hours while the stretching vibration presence in FTIR graph at 1400 cm-1 proven to be fluorapatite cement. Based on this research, it can be concluded that fluorapatite cement could be produced by the mixing process of DCPA, CaCO3 and CaF2 powders with NaH2PO4 liquid.
