 <note>This research js b~~ed on difficulties of Papuan-origin students in Satya Wacana &#13;
Christian University (SWCU) in performing intercultural adjustmemto Javanese &#13;
culture which has extreme differences to their origin. In performing effective &#13;
intercultural adjustment, one needs an optimal intercultural competence (Fantini, &#13;
2009). This research will explore SWCU Papuan-origin students' intercultural &#13;
competence and dissect which component of intercultural competence that has not &#13;
been mastered by the students. The result will lead to a development of training &#13;
program aimed to increase intercultural competence of SWCU Papuan-origin &#13;
students. &#13;

A quantitative method was used to produce categorical descriptive analysis. 188 &#13;
SWCU Papuan-origin students from Papua province and West Papua province &#13;
participate in this study and undertook intercultural competence questionnaire. &#13;
Questionnaire was developed based on Intercultural Competence theory from Fantini &#13;
(2009). &#13;

Study findings' shows that most of the Papuan-origin students (58.51%) students &#13;
have moderate-high level of intercultural competence, meaning that most Papuan­ &#13;
origin students do not possess adequateability in achieving their goals in order to &#13;
performing intercultural adjustment. Further investigation in each component of &#13;
intercultural competence indicated that respondents in general have not mastered &#13;
intercultural awareness component optimally. &#13;
&#13;
Hence, training program designed from this findings will specifically aimed to &#13;
increase Papuan-origin students' intercultural awareness component to enable them &#13;
achieve adequate intercultural competence. This intervention is designed into two­ &#13;
days training by applying experiential learning principles. &#13;
