  • Pulp cavity is known to increase in secondary dentin deposition with age, therefore serving as an indicator for age estimation. The purpose of this research is to determine age estimation by pulp/tooth area ratio of canines on panoramic radiograph in deutero-Malay sub race.
    The observational analytical research design study was done on 200 digital orthopantomographs (Picasso Trio, Vatech Korea 2006 with Epx Impla Software) of deutero-Malay sub race from secondary data in Dentomaxillofacial Radiology Installation of Dental Hospital, Faculty of Dentistry, Padjadjaran University, aged between 20-40 years using stratified random sampling. Radiographic images of maxillary and mandibular canines (RIC) were processed using a computer-aided drafting program (ImageJ), recorded and statistically analyzed to derive regression equation for estimation of age respectively.
    The result of this study is for maxillary canines: Age =-38,961+ 97,801X with standard error of estimate 0.8243 years, whereas for mandibular canines: Age = -30,497 + 87,729X with standard error of estimate 2.8478 years.
    The conclusion of this study shows age can be determined by pulp/tooth area ratio of canines on panoramic radiograph using regression formula in deutero-malay sub race.
