  • Pawon Man are prehistoric humans of Indonesia and were suspected to be Mongoloids that resided in Pawon Cave, village of Gunung Masigit, Cipatat subdistrict, West Bandung Regency approximately 5,600 to 9,500 years ago. The skeletal remains were discovered using carbon dating analysis (C-14). The purpose of this research is to determine the shape of the mandibular dental arches to identify the race of the skeletal remains of Pawon Man.
The research method used is the descriptive method and the secondary data obtained are the DICOM Slices of the three mandibles (Pawon 1, Pawon 2 and Pawon 4) of the skeletal remains of Pawon Man. Analysis of the shape of the mandibular dental arches by measuring the intercanine width, intermolar width, canine depth and molar depth is done using ImageJ application. Then, the mandibular dental arch shapes are determined based on arch form parameters, and then the race is identified according to the mandibular dental arch shapes of the three mandibles.
Based on the research results, it can be concluded that Pawon 1 and Pawon 2 are allegedly to be of the Caucasoid race with tapered-shaped mandibular dental arches and Pawon 4 is allegedly to be of either the Caucasoid or Mongoloid race with either tapered or oval-shaped mandibular dental arch. However, inadequacies were encountered during the procedure of this research, hence, decreasing the accuracy of the results.
