 <note>This thesis is entitled &quot;Politeness Strategies of Collaborative and Competitive &#13;
Styles in Step Up Movie Series 1-5: A sociopragmatics Study&quot;. The topics in this &#13;
thesis are utterances that contain Collaborative and Competitive Styles and its &#13;
relation with Politeness Strategies which forms words, phrases or clauses. The &#13;
purposes of this research are 1) analysis what kind of Collaborative Style which &#13;
appear in data, 2) analysis what kind of Competitive Style which appear in data,3) &#13;
what the politeness strategies appear between Collaborative and Competitive &#13;
Styles in data. The method is a descriptive analysis. This research use the Coates &#13;
theory of The same-sex talk and Brown and Levinson theory of Politeness &#13;
strategies. There are fivety data in this thesis. The results of this research indicate &#13;
that Collaborative and Competitive styles have relation with Politeness strategies, &#13;
such as 1) Collaborative Styles; Topic and Topic Development, Hedges, and &#13;
Questions which are classified into Bald On-record. Minimal Responses, Hedges, &#13;
and Turn Taking which are classified into Positive Politeness. Topic and Topic &#13;
Development and Hedges which are classified into Negative Politeness. Minimal &#13;
Responses, and Questions which are classified into Off-record. 2) Competitive &#13;
Styles; Topic Choice, Monologues and Playing the Experts, Questions, Verbal &#13;
Sparring and Turn Taking which are classified into On-record. Topic Choice and &#13;
Monologues and Playing the Experts which are classified into Positive Politeness. &#13;
Questions which is classified into Politeness. Topic choice, Monologues and &#13;
Playing the Experts and Questions which are classified into Off-record. &#13;
