  • Biochemistry of Lipids, Lipoproteins and Membranes is unique in that it represents a bridge between the superficial coverage of the lipid field found in basic biochemistry textbooks and the highly specialized material contained in scientific review articles and monographs. The book is not a collection of exhaustive reviews, but a current and readable summary of diverse aspects of lipids. It is intended as an advanced and up-to-date textbook for teachers and students who are familiar with the basic concepts of lipid biochemistry and will also serve as a general reference book for scientists studying lipids, lipoproteins and membranes. This book divided until 21 chapters. Chapter 1 about functional roles of lipids in membranes. Chapter 2 about lipid modifications of proteins. Chapter 3 about fatty acid and phospholipid metabolism in prokaryotes. Chapter 4 about lipid metabolism in plants. Chapter 5 about oxidation of fatty acids in eukaryotes. Chapter 6 about fatty acid synthesis in eukaryotes. Chapter 7 about fatty acid desaturation and chain elongation in mammals. Chapter 8 about phospholipid biosynthesisi in eukaryotes. Chapter 9 about ether-linked lipids and their bioactive species. Chapter 10 about lipid metabolism in adipose tissue. Chapter 11 about phospholipases. Chapter 12 about the eicosanoids: cyclooxygenase, lipoxygenase, and epoxygenase pathways. Chapter 13 about sphingolipids. Chapter 14 about cholesterol biosynthesis. Chapter 15 about metabolism and function of bile acids. Chapter 16 about lipid assembly into cell membranes. Chapter 17 about lipoprotein structure. Chapter 18 about assembly and secretion of triacylglycerol-rich lipoproteins. Chapter 19 about dynamics of lipoprotein transport in the circulatory system. Chapter 20 about lipoprotein receptors. Chapter 21 about lipids and atherosclerosis.
