This research aims to ascertain how artefacts layouting represent national identity in a museum. The case study which located in Asian-African Conference Museum was used to answer the main question of this research. Museum that builds in a nation region tend to show its national identity in the purpose of legitimizing nation power. It comprises 5 aspects that affects how museum could represent national identity, they are; museum theme; artefacts which shows Indonesian national identity; information that explains in a textual naration of an artefact; national identity conception from museum staff who corresponds directly in a museum exhibition room, and the last is a regulation as well as a vision of a museum itself. Based on those 5 aspects, the writer thought that there are two dominant aspects to represent national identity through artefacts layouting in a museum exhibition room. Two dominant aspects consist of museum theme and museum staff national identity conception who corresponds directly in a museum exhibition room. To show national identity in a museum exhibition room, museum needs to relate the issue of the nation with its own theme. Asian-African Conference Museum itself is a museum which documents Asian-African Conference histrory through its artefact collections. The Asian-African Conference 1955 is the first conference of coloured people which located in Bandung, Indonesia. Indonesia became the host to hold the conference. That is one of the points to relate the theme of Asian-African Conference Museum with Indonesian national identity issue. Whilst, museum staff who corresponds with artefacts layouting in museum exhibiton room have a main role in constructing national identity. They have their own conception about Indonesian national identity. Therefore, it is possible for them to reduct the story of the historical event which communicates through artefacts layouting. Answering the main question through this research, the writer used qualitative method. Using qualitative method could find a deep knowledge of information which came from interviewing the informants. In that consideration, the writer also get a depiction how museum builds national identity through its own artefacts layouting in an exhibiton room. This research has found that national identy conception from museum staff who corresponds with artefacts layouting is a constructive identity. National identity is an imaginative form of a whole community which exist in a nation. That is what curator illustrate through artefacts layouting and organizing by representing the historical event of the nation, nation symbols, and also national ideology in Asian-African Conference Museum exhibition room. What museum communicates through its collection to public, makes museum has a hegemony role to represent the national identity. In the conclusion, national identity which constructs in an artefact is one of the material culture form that products and interpretates in a symbolize way through social relation in nation society so that has a uniqe characteristic compared to other nations.
