Piperine is the principal alkaloid compound derived from Piper nigrum, known for its various pharmacological activities, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer effects. However, the oral use of piperine faces limitations due to its poor water solubility and low absorption in the body, which reduces its therapeutic effectiveness. To address this issue, a nanotechnology-based approach is employed to enhance the solubility and bioabsorption of piperine. In this study, piperine was formulated into nanoparticles using the desolvation method with albumin carriers derived from both Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) and Catfish Serum Albumin (CSA). Albumin was selected due to its ability to improve the solubility of hydrophobic compounds and its role as a biocompatible and biodegradable drug delivery system. Catfish-derived albumin (CSA) also presents a promising local alternative that is more economical and sustainable. The characterization results showed that the nanoparticle system successfully increased the solubility of piperine and produced nano-sized particles suitable for enhancing bioabsorption. Therefore, this piperine-albumin nanoparticle formulation may serve as an effective strategy to optimize the therapeutic potential of piperine by improving its solubility and bioavailability.
