  • The COVID-19 pandemic outbreaks have devastated the world in all areas including the economy, politics, business, and of course health. For this, different containment strategies were implemented by governments to stop the virus from spreading, such as through the establishment of COVID-19 guidelines. This research aimed to identify differences and similarities, strengths and weaknesses of the COVID-19 guidelines in Indonesia, Egypt, and Jordan, and evaluating the alignment of the treatment guidelines of the three countries with global treatment intervention studies. In this regard, this research employed a convergent parallel mixed-methods research design. A qualitative descriptive comparative research design was employed, utilizing the most recent versions of official COVID-19 guidelines from Indonesia, Egypt, and Jordan, using the document analysis approach, facilitated by NVivo. A systematic review and bibliometric analysis were initially utilized to assess worldwide interventions for COVID-19 treatment. These results were then integrated with qualitative data in the subsequent phase. The results showed that case definition demonstrating an 85.7% similarity and 14.3% differences, testing and screening exhibiting a 66.7% similarity and 33.3% differences, case classification revealing an 85.7% similarity and 14.3% differences, case management indicating an 80% similarity and 20% differences, case treatment displaying an 83.3% similarity and 16.7% differences, and preventative measures showcasing a 75% similarity and 25% differences. The COVID-19 guidelines also revealed both strengths and weaknesses, demonstrating varying effectiveness across essential domains. Indonesia highlighted robust well-definition and comprehensive coverage (83% completeness, 17% partiality), with a balanced evidence-based approach (50% completeness, 50% partiality). In Egypt, the guidelines demonstrated a well-defined approach (67% completeness, 33% partiality), yet weaknesses emerge in evidence-based practices and comprehensive coverage (17% completeness, 83% partiality). Meanwhile, Jordan's guidelines exhibited a comparable well-definition (67% completeness, 33% partiality), and showing a more equitable distribution in evidence-based and comprehensive coverage (50% completeness, 50% partiality). The systematic review started with the identification of 501 studies; nonetheless, only 22 of them satisfied the inclusion criteria and were subsequently utilized in the integration phase. 36% (8/22) of the reviewed studies were found in the treatment protocols advocated by the three countries. However, discrepancies were observed between some recommendations in the countries' guidelines and the findings of these treatment intervention studies. In conclusion, this research revealed notable similarities, differences, strengths and weaknesses across the COVID-19 guidelines from selected countries, which were partially aligned with global treatment interventions.
Key words: mixed-methods, similarities, differences, strengths, weaknesses.
