  • Multivariate analysis provides both descriptive and inferential procedures. We can search for patterns in the data or test hypotheses about patterns of a priori interest. With multivariate descriptive techniques, we can peer beneath the tangled web of variables on the surface and extract the essence of the system. Multivariate inferential procedures include hypothesis test that process any number of variables without inflating the Type 1 error rate and allow for whatever intercorrelation the variables posses.
