  • "Children born in families do not always grow up according to parental
expectations, there are children born with special needs, one of which is a child
with an intellectual disability (ID). Several previous studies have revealed that
parents, especially mothers of ID children are more susceptible to Parenting Stress
compared to normal child parents, and tend to show rejection of the child's
condition. A sense of confidence is needed in providing care that suits the needs of
children, based on previous research it was found that mothers who have ID
children tend to have lower levels of parental self-efficacy, compared to mothers
who have children with other disabilities. Parental Self-Efficacy in the previous
study both can acted as a moderator or mediator related to the relationship between
Parenting Stress with mental health of mothers with children with special needs
and the relationship between mothers and children. This study aims to determine
the role of Parental Self-Efficacy in the relationship between Parental Rejection
and Parenting Stress of mothers who have MID children. The participants of this
study were 72 mothers who have children with MID aged 7-15 years old, attending
special school in Bandung. The sample was taken using purposive sampling
technique. The research data were processed using Multiple Regression analysis.
Based on the results of the conducted analysis shows that Parental Rejection
and Parental Self-Efficacy influence the Parenting Stress felt by mothers who have
children with MID (p=0.000, R2=0.322; p=0.000, R2=0.454). The higher the
tendency of rejecton the mother shows, the tendency of parenting stress is higher
(Y= 159,567+0,534x). For the effect of Parental Self-Efficacy, the higher Parental
Self-Efficacy of mother, the Parenting Stress will be lower (Y = 159,567-0,782x).
This study discovered that Parental Self-Efficacy do not act as moderator (b = -
    0.0002, 95% CI [-0.0186, 0.0181], t = -0.0255, p > .05), however it acted as
mediator in the relationship between Parental Rejection with Parenting Stress
    (direct effect c’=0,5338, p=0,0143, 95% CI (0.11, 0.9576); indirect effect
    a*b=0,6153, p=0,000, 95% CI (0.3598, 0.9062); total effect c=1,1491, p=0,000,
95%CI (0.7521, 1.5462)). Parental Self-Effiacy roles as partial moderators, where
Parental Rejection give a higher effects to Parenting Stress while there is a
    mediation from Parental Self-Efficacy (c’
