• The use of smartphones in adolescents can have a negative impact on their daily lives, when adolescents do not have the ability to control smartphone use this can lead to problematic smartphone use behavior (PSU). Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect of parental structure and parental psychological control on problematic smartphone use in adolescents. Two hundred and nineteen adolescents aged 12-18 (M = 14.49 years) completed the Indonesian version of the Parental Structure Scale, Parental Psychological Control Scale, and Mobile Phone Problematic Use Scale questionnaires. Multiple regression test results show that only parental psychological control predicts the increase of problematic smartphone use in adolescents. Based on the results of this study, it is suggested that type of parental control which emphasizes authority assertion, love withdrawal, and guilt induction is not effective to decrease the problematic smartphone use in adolescents. l control.
