• In 1969, the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Sponsoring Com-mittee, comprising of a group of intellectuals, prepared and published a report recommending the establishment of the University. The report laid out the basis for the establishment of the University. It was debated later in a congress held at the University of Malaya late in 1969, and was later adopted as a guideline for the establishment of the University in May 1970. It was indeed a historical event and the progress achieved since 1970 proved beyond doubt the success of Malay Language as a medium of instruction at University level.
