  • ABSTRACT
    The study was carried to examine the usefulness of Ajzen's (1991) Theory of Planned Behavior in predicting small agribusiness entrepreneurs intention. The aims of the study were to test the compatibility ft) model, involvement, attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and intentions concerning the small agribusiness entrepreneurs.
    Samples were 294 (two hundred and ninety four) small agribusiness entrepreneurs in three districts of Bogor Regency, West Java, namely, Ciampea, Cijeruk, and Tajurhalang, who completed a questionnaire. They were selected using multistage random sampling techniques. The questionnaire used differential semantic scales measurement techniques (extremely unlikely - extremely likely, extremely good - extremely bad, not at all-very much, very rarely - very frequently, strongly agree - strongly disagree), and the major data were collected in November — December 2010. Statistical analysis used was structural equation modeling (SEM).
    Structural equation modeling analysis revealed that the model fit with the result of the study. The success factors to determine what contributes to the success of SMEs were hard work, useful information, honesty, creativity innovative, autonomy, spiritual/prayers and perseverance. Where as for the subjective norms variables were expectations of referent groups, parents, family, husband or wife, and entrepreneur friends. Small agribusiness entrepreneurial intentions more influenced by subjective norms compared to attitudes and the perceived behavior control.
    Model of the theory of planned behavior has been able to explain the most of the variance in entrepreneurial intentions for small agribusiness.
