x,;127 hlm,;29 cm EVALUATION AND MANAGEMENT STRATEGY OF TAMAN HUTAN RAYADR. M. HATTA ABSTRACT Taman Hutan Raya (Tahura) Bung Hatta is a conservation area which has high biodiversity. However, lack of good management of Tahura Bung Hatta causes utilization of existing natural resources in the regi n not maximal yet. The purpose of this study is to describe and evaluate the management of Tahura Bung Hatta and to identify the factors that influence and strategies which should be developed in the management Tahura Bung Hatta. The research method is qualitative method. Data collecting is done through semi-structured interviews, .field observation and documentation study to collect data aspects of the ecology, management and protection, and social economics. Tahura Bung Hatta is currently managed by the City of Padang through Service Office of Agriculture, Livestock, Plantation, Forestry and Service Office of Tourism and Culture of Padang City. Area management is more focused on principles of protection rather than on the principles of preservation and utilization. From the observation, some areas ~f the Tahura Bung Hatta region are looked unkempt, as well as existing infrastructure is not used and maintained properly by the management institutions. Management of Tahura Bung Hatta has been influenced by the dualism of management institutions, there is no management plan for the region, limited human resources and facilities and supporting infrastructure, lack f?f coordination with the parties and the limited funds. By considering the current circumstances and conditions qf Tahura Bung Hatta it needs efforts to build coordination and cooperation with various agencies and institutions in the preparation of management plans, institutional strengthening of Tahura Bung Hatta management in accordance with government policies, optimizing the utilization of the potential of Tahura Bung Hatta, as well as collaboration management with involving the parties.
